Roller Compactor In Chemical

Based on different classifications, there are different roller compactors. According to the design, roller compactors can be divided into two types: fixed gap roller compactor and floating gap roller compactor.

The fixed roller compactor, just as its name implies, the gap/distance between two rollers are constant and fixed.

Advantages: simple structure, maintenance cost is low, suitable for powders with good flowability and uniform particle size distribution.

Shortcomings: uneven pressure on powders due to uncontrolled powder flowing volume, which may lead to the thickness of compressed ribbons are not uniform.

The floating gap roller compactor is more flexible. The gap between rollers are not fixed and can be adjusted arbitrarily.

Advantages: the distance between rollers can be adjusted according to the amount of powder fed. So the pressure applied on the powders can remain constant and uniform, minimizing the effect of pressure fluctuation.

Shortcomings:The design of floating gap roller compactors is relatively complex, so the maintenance cost is relatively high. Operation is more complex, need more professional operators.
